The Public Law Project is looking for a Head of Casework

Closing date: Please note that expressions of interest for this post must be with us by midnight Weds 7th January 2015.

CONTRACT LENGTH: Maternity cover: one year fixed starting March/April 2015 (with possibility of extension/permanence)
LOCATION: Central London
HOURS: 3-5 days a week (negotiable)
SALARY: Competitive senior NGO

PLP (an independent, national, legal charity) aims to improve access to public law remedies for those facing poverty, discrimination or other disadvantage. We undertake research, policy initiatives, casework and training across public law areas. Our work is carried out by a small but committed group of staff and volunteers supported by an expert management committee. We have worked hard to merit a reputation for high quality, creative and ground-breaking legal work.

We are seeking an experienced lawyer to head our casework team for a year during a period of maternity leave. The successful candidate will also manage a major and exciting project concerned with the availability of legal aid and help formulate the strategic direction of our work during that time.

There is scope for flexibility in the final job description, but we expect that you will be a practising solicitor or barrister with significant experience of public law/judicial review litigation. Ideally, you will have a proven track record of strategic working, of ensuring the financial performance of a small team, and of project development and/or fundraising.
Although the role is temporary, there is a lot of scope for innovation. PLP has plans to expand and there will be potential for the right candidate to be offered a role beyond the fixed term, including on a permanent basis.

We are inviting expressions of interest by way of CV and cover letter. Please send these to h.whyman@publiclawproject.org.uk
