Casework
Most of PLP’s casework is judicial review, though we also deal with Ombudsman cases and other forms of dispute resolution where appropriate. Our solicitors only take on cases that are within our casework strategy and our current casework priorities. Cases are taken on referral from solicitors and advisers, often through our Specialist Support Service. They are sometimes referred by other organisations or charities such as Age Concern or NAVCA. We do not take cases on directly from members of the public.
Most of the cases we deal with are ‘test’ cases by which we mean cases which either establish a new point of law, by changing or by clarifying the law, or cases which involve the application in a particular area for the first time of a point of law developed elsewhere.
A significant amount of our lawyers’ time is taken up giving advice to other solicitors and advisers via our specialist support service. We also do casework related to specific projects such as the Corporate Accountability Project and Empowering the Voluntary Sector.
"Judicial review… provides the means by which judicial control of administrative action is exercised.”
