Policy

PLP regularly submits responses to consultations and government policy proposals which fall within areas relevant to our core objective of monitoring and increasing the accessibility of public law remedies. Particular focuses within this area are judicial review procedure, ADR, and government legal aid policy, concern over which has led PLP and other organisations to form the Access to Justice Alliance. PLP’s policy and research work are closely entwined, with research often undertaken to develop policy reform proposals, and policy initiatives stimulating new areas of research.

Recent Consultation Responses

Equality legislation is currently under the spotlight on the Red Tape Challenge website. From 9th June - 30th June the site is open for thoughts on the measures within the Equality Act.  PLP is supporting a sector wide campaign to save the act and has signed a joint letter to the Home Secretary Theresa May asking for assurance that the Equality Act will not be repealed in whole or in part.  Click here to see the letter to Theresa May.  For more information please see http://bit.ly/iUNeWS

In November 2010 the Ministry of Justice put forward Proposals for the Reform of Legal Aid in England and Wales.  To see PLP's response, click here.

In November 2010 the Ministry of Justice also put forward Proposals for the Reform of Civil Litigation Funding and Costs in England and Wales (Implementation of Lord Justice Jackson's Recommendations).  To see PLP's response, click here.
