Data Protection Act for mental health practitioners
This course is a two-hour seminar which covers the following:
- Access to medical records by the patient’s solicitor or nearest relative
- Access to social services files
- Grounds for witholding records and challenging refusal to disclose
- Human Rights Act issues
- How to appeal
- The role of the Information Commissioner
- Procedural issues: time limits, fees etc
- How to get factual inaccuracies corrected
The seminar will cover the legislative framework applying to individual rights, the data protection principles, legal exemptions, and procedural matters. It is suitable for solicitors and caseworkers.
This seminar will be led by one of PLP’s lawyers, and carries 2 CPD points.
