Current casework priorities
Our priority areas for casework at present are:
- Access to Justice, including legal aid scope and eligibility, court fees, ‘Article 6’ issues.
- Empowering the Voluntary Sector, especially cases about consultation processes and grant allocation issues.
- Work with local agencies on endemic problems in their areas, including for instance income preservation such as NI number allocation, benefit delays, tax credit overpayments, public body debt recovery processes, or specific issues affecting large numbers of people from disadvantaged groups.
- Discrimination, including EU law, Article 14 ECHR, race equality, sex discrimination, disability discrimination etc.
- Contracting out of ‘public services’ or decision-making, especially accountability issues e.g. susceptibility to judicial review, whether the Human Rights Act applies.
- Development of the jurisprudence relating to Protective Costs Orders.
